Using this track I physically create a route in Basecamp.
GARMIN BASECAMP DOWNLOAD
I sometimes use Google Maps (my maps) or Mappite to create a route and download the kmz/kml/gpx track file which includes the 'gpx' track and import it into basecamp.
GARMIN BASECAMP HOW TO
This is not difficult and there is enough guidance available on how to update Openstreetmaps.Ģ. Before a road trip, if 'Openstreetmap' lacked an existing road, I logged on and updated the section before re-downloading the updated map.

Over time, these are the basic steps I take to ensure a hassle free trip :-ġ. This would mean to always plan your trip before you set out. So Basecamp is forced to follow a particular sequence of via points. To avoid unnecessary loops and additional routing, 'Create' your route by physically including via points at turns where such random loops occur. Routing depends upon the settings of the 'modes of travel' or Activity in Basecamp and importantly the availability of roads between two locations. I have always used Openstreetmap since Garmin Maps are clearly unaffordable for me. Hi, I've been using Basecamp on a Mac for a few years now, and have been transported to both extremes of the frustration-satisfaction spectrum, so I can imagine how you feel.

I just iteratively put via points closer and closer to get the route I want when Basecamp is being cantankerous.įor dirt ride planning I generally put via points in the middle of a road segment as opposed to an intersection.įWIW I think any routing software would have the same problems. I use Undo a lot when I am getting a segment I don't like. Start very simple to get a feel for what is going on and what works and what doesn't. Or by switching to Direct Routing near the defect which doesn't autoroute and will just draw a line right thru the defect.

I fix this either by creating two routes, one up to the defect and one after it. They are pretty rare now for City Navigator and I only encounter a few per year if that.

There can be a very small missing segment in a map and Basecamp will refuse to route thru it. So it is kind of a disaster if I am planning a cross country truck trip with motorcycle preferences and same if I am trying to plan a dirt ride with auto preferences.Īnother thing that can cause unwanted loops are map defects. The motorcycle set is set to prefer dirt roads and avoid interstate. I have a auto driving set and a motorcycle set of preferences. It is nearly always caused by using the wrong preferences. If you prefer raster topographic maps, you can also download BirdsEye Select maps and pay only for the data you download.įor manuals, videos and other helpful information visit the Support Center.I too sometimes get unwanted loops and things trying to create a route in Basecamp. It makes it easy to scout campsites, sources of water, potential hazards and more. With BaseCamp and a BirdsEye Satellite Imagery subscription, you can transfer an unlimited amount of satellite images to your outdoor or fitness device and seamlessly integrate those images into your maps to get a true representation of your surroundings. Transfer the photos to your handheld device or email your geotagged photos directly to friends or family so they can navigate right to your favorite spots in the future. You can see the exact scenery at any given location.
